Diatomaceous earth (DE) and sand filters require the use of a backwash valve. Backwash valves are available in two different styles. The first and most common style is the slide valve, also referred to as a push/pull valve. These valves operate in either the filter or backwash position and generally allow more water to flow through them.
The second style of backwash valve is the multi-port valve. While multi-port valves are more complex, they will direct the flow of water many different ways. Most multi-port valves will allow water to flow in the filter, backwash, rinse, recirculate, and waste positions.
Multi-port valves usually offer a closed position as well. |
